‘The Unity of Disparity’ is an ongoing photogram series exploring the relationship between light, glass, and photosensitive paper to create intricate, dreamlike images that invite viewers to contemplate the connection between the tangible and the transient. I use glass in this series as a way to symbolically connect its delicate beauty with the intricate complexity and beauty of the human brain, drawing inspiration from a significant personal experience with a concussion and my mother’s struggle with dementia. The series honours the unique neurological experiences of individuals by merging visual art with personal narratives. Each photogram tells a story of someone coping with a neurological condition. The intention is for the images to evoke a variety of emotions, mirroring the emotions that someone with a neurological condition may go through.
